This. I hope any mechanics on oppo don't talk down to women.

But if she knew something about cars, wouldn’t she be fixing it?

She wasn’t implying she knew though, she was implying that her husband knew just as much/little.

We all have our limitations. I don’t do my own alignments or frame work.

I’ve often found that women not only listen better, but are more receptive and willing to learn about their car’s problems. They make much better customers.

Yeah, I wish that hasn’t happened. I had to make a formal complaint at a dealership once because the mechanic and service writer both told me the burning coolant smell was just my air freshener.
I’ve also walked out of a parts store that refused to sell me spark plugs because their magic computer said they weren’t for my car. Because I run step colder plugs. I know the correct part number for the plugs I run, it’s not hard.
I’ve walked out of other parts stores because no one would help me, when I actually had a question.
I had to lie to a salesman about having a boyfriend when shopping for my truck, because he was being just a little too friendly. As soon as I said that his entire mood changed.

Mechanics don’t talk to customers. And if we did we would probably talk down to all of them

FWIW, I’ve been very happy with the service at my Chevy and Yamaha dealers, as opposed to the Ducati dealership. I was checking out a Panigale and was completely ignored, my ex (a dude who has never ridden in his life) was checking out his phone and the salesman was falling over him.

This goes beyond mechanics. I’ve had several trades at our house this last year and on more than one occasion was something pertinent my wife mention dismissed immediately. It pissed us off real bad this one time (full story not necessary) that she now requests I’m home if we have people working at the house.
In spite of my photos that suggest I’m vaguely involved in construction, I assure you my knowledge is “diddly squat,” as opposed to her “jack shit.”

My wife deals with all the mechanics. I only come in after there has been an incident. It isn’t because she can’t handle them herself. She has mor than sufficient knowledge and experience. It's because court costs and prison visits are expensive and time consuming. The kids would also miss their mother.

Not to defend sexist pigs, but the majority of women I try to talk to about their cars make zero decisions and say they need to talk to their husband or ask if I can talk to their husband. I also get the, “Well, my husband usually takes care of the car stuff” line.
And to be honest, that all drives me nuts! Women should not be forced by society to not try and learn about cars, or submit to their husbands when it comes to the car! We need more strong women in society!
Full disclosure: I was raised by a single mom (my dad walked out on my mom and us five children was I was two) and had three, strong, older sisters. My mom managed to raise me and my four siblings, put herself through UCSB, and send all five of us to get our college degrees, and one of my sisters has several graduate degrees, my other sister is also getting her Masters, and is a teacher. And I will be going to law school. So I have a different opinion of women compared to most women.

When they’re willing to learn. I get more women just taking an apathetic approach and retain no information and just defer everything to their husband. It drives me nuts. Women should take charge more.

Maybe she’s like me, and has lengthy periods with roughly one day off from work per month, a lot of stuff that needs doing, and pretty much no time to do it.

They’re not forced to by society, my wife/mom/sisters literally just don’t give a shit. They’re perfectly content to have it just work. Just like I don’t care to do the clothe or food shopping, just as long as it’s done. I care way more about the grass getting cut than she does, she cares way more about the house being clean than I do. Division of labor, it’s what society was built on.

Sure, there’s nothing wrong with a division of labor. But I have a problem with how our societies (I’m including Europe in this generalization) have stereotyped certain things, like cars and house cleaning. Men traditionally are responsible for one thing, women the other. We don’t prevent men or women switching places, but some people are hostile towards it, like car repair. There are mechanics who just won’t talk to women about their cars. There are also women who refuse to learn about their car and instead have their husband deal with it. It’s usually a two-way street, but when it’s a one-way street, it’s the man saying he’ll take care of it.
On the flip side too, there are men who don’t like women technicians working on their car. My last co-worker was a woman, and she was more of a car guy than most technicians. And apparently there were customers who did not want her working on their car, solely because she was a woman.
